Sunrise Prairie Regional Trail Improvements Completed

Chisago County Commissioners recently approved a contract with HardDrives, Inc. out of Rogers, Minnesota to complete trail base improvements, new bituminous pavement and a pedestrian crosswalk flasher system at County Roads 17 and 19 at the trail intersections. This includes new pavement from the south county line just north of Forest Lake to State Highway 95 in North Branch.

The project started on July 17, 2017 followed by a Grand Re-Opening held on September 16, 2017 at 6311 Maple St Trailhead in North Branch. The event included: free bike safety check and door prizes; E-Bike demonstrations and trail rides; ribbon cutting; free hotdog lunch; along with give-away drawings for a bike and rollerblades.

Major project funding was provided by the Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment, Chisago County and the City of North Branch. Additional support was received from Chisago County Parks & Trails, Penn Cycle & Fitness and Forest Lake Cycle & Skate.

North Branch city officials have extended the Sunrise Prairie Regional Trail north through 410th Street. This provides a connection to residential areas north of the city and to the Roger Johnson Memorial Park. Plans to continue the trail to Harris and beyond are still under development.

If you have ideas or feedback regarding our project contact the Chisago County Park Director, Laird Mork via email.
