  1. Proposed 2016-2017 MFIP Service Agreement

Counties must submit a biennial MFIP Service Agreement between the County Board and the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services in order to receive funds.

The primary purpose of the service agreement is to access statewide efforts toward the goal of "economic stability for low income families" under MFIP.

The agreement provides an assessment of ongoing needs of families and children within program areas, resources available to address these needs, budgeting of allocated resources, and community participation and review in the planning and development of the service agreement.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) will review and approve County MFIP Biennial Service Agreements.  Counties will receive approval letters for their MFIP Plans from the Commissioner of DHS.  This plan period begins on January 1, 2016.

  2. County Jail Assessment

The safety and security of our community, including through maintaining and operating a County Jail, is a core public service and one required by state law.  In meeting this mandated service, the Chisago County Board of Commissioners is committed to supporting the most cost effective and efficient jail operation available.

Recently, the Chisago County Board of Commissioners ordered a comprehensive “side-by-side” assessment of four options to address the currently-deficient and obsolete County Jail facility.

Of the four options evaluated, construction and operation of a modest new County Jail - 50% smaller and less expensive than the one considered in 2008 - is the most cost effective and efficient way to meet the County’s public safety needs for both today and the next 20 years.

Simply repairing the currently undersized and deficient jail, renovating and expanding the county  jail, or closing the current jail altogether and shuttling inmates to and from other county jails all would cost the County more, both annually and in the long haul.

In determining that construction and operation of a modest new jail is the best option available to Chisago County, the County Board of Commissioners has also committed itself to now seeking be best way to fund this needed project without unnecessarily raising property taxes or negatively impacting other core public services.

The entire County Jail Assessment is available here for you to download and read.  The County Sheriff is also making himself available at 651-213-6301 to answer any questions, field any comments or schedule a tour of the current County jail for you or your organization.
